| Museum Library
The Library of Carnegie Museum of Natural History is a collection of approximately 132,000 volumes. The collection is particularly strong in scientific periodicals and has long runs of European journals dating to the nineteenth century. Included in the 32,000 titles in the Library are 5,400 periodical titles, of which 1,500 are currently received. Many periodicals are received through the museum's publication exchange program which distributes Annals of Carnegie Museum and Bulletin of Carnegie Museum of Natural History to other museums and libraries. The library's strengths reflect the scientific sections of the museum:
While the library's primary users are the research and public programs staff of the museum and their professional colleagues worldwide, the collections are available for onsite use by the public. Photocopies may also be requested through interlibrary loan; please provide full citations with information on author, title, publisher, date of publication, and cost. The library maintains various institutional records and also serves as the starting point for research into the archival collections held by the scientific sections. Preservation Fair Carnegie Museum of Natural History along with the University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences has co-sponsored The Preservation Fair: Saving Your Family Treasures, an event which provides public information on basic conservation measures for personal collections of paper-based material such as letters and other documents, photographs, films, paintings and works of art on paper, textiles, and glass.
